چکیده

The effects of halothane and ketamine anesthesia on [ 11 C]raclopride binding were assessed in the cat striatum at basal conditions and after drugor depolarization-induced dopamine (DA) release using Positron Emission Tomography. At baseline, Scatchard analyses revealed that the higher [ 11 C]raclopride binding found under halothane anesthesia was mainly attributable to a higher radioligand apparent affinity. Decreased [ 11 C]raclopride binding was demonstrated following amphetamine under ketamine but not under halothane anesthesia. Under ketamine anesthesia transient DA overflows induced by direct stimulations of DA neurons through an intracerebral electrode induced transient changes in [ 11 C]raclopride binding with a remarkable spatiotemporal accuracy. No effect was observed under halothane anesthesia. The failure to detect competition between DA and [ 11 C]raclopride for binding on D 2 -receptors under halothane anesthesia might reflect, as already reported for other brain receptor systems, a halothane-promoted conversion of D 2 -receptors to a state of lower affinity for DA. It is suggested that the affinity state of receptors is a factor to be considered in in vivo ligand-activation studies. Responses of red nucleus neurons to peripheral stimulation in chloralose anesthetized cats.

Spontaneous and evoked activity of red nucleus neurons is described in chloralose anesthetized cats. It is suggested that some effects, e.g. burst discharges and prolonged inhibitory-excitatory responses, were induced by the use of chloralose.

Indirect arterial blood pressure measurement in healthy anesthetized cats using a device that combines oscillometry with photoplethysmography

We investigated the basic characteristics of indirect arterial blood pressure (ABP) measurement using a device that combines oscillometry and photoplethysmography in cats. Dobutamine was infused intravenously in four anesthetized cats. Direct ABP was measured by a catheter. Indirect ABP was measured from the left forelimb. Dobutamine significantly elevated both systolic arterial pressure (SAP) ...

Evaluation of Doppler Ultrasonic and Oscillometric Methods of Indirect Blood Pressure Measurement in Cats

Reliability of 804 indirect measurements of systemic arterial blood pressure (BP) was assessed in 13 cats by comparing results obtained indirectly by oscillometry (BPo) and Doppler ultrasonography (BPud) with those obtained simultaneously by a reference method, direct radiotelemetry (BPrt). The reliability varied considerably among sites of cuff placement and method of indirect measurement in c...

Acid-base and biochemical stabilization and quality of recovery in male cats with urethral obstruction and anesthetized with propofol or a combination of ketamine and diazepam.

This study compared acid-base and biochemical changes and quality of recovery in male cats with experimentally induced urethral obstruction and anesthetized with either propofol or a combination of ketamine and diazepam for urethral catheterization. Ten male cats with urethral obstruction were enrolled for urethral catheterization and anesthetized with either ketamine-diazepam (KD) or propofol ...

Evaluation of urodynamic procedures in female cats anesthetized with low and high doses of isoflurane and propofol.

OBJECTIVE To compare effects of isoflurane and propofol on the cystometrogram and urethral pressure profile (UPP) in healthy female cats. ANIMALS 6 healthy female cats. PROCEDURES Cats were anesthetized, and a consistent plane of anesthesia was maintained with low and high doses of isoflurane and propofol. A 6-F double-lumen urinary catheter was placed aseptically in the urethra for cystome...

Differential effect of morphine and morphine-6-glucuronide on the control of breathing in the anesthetized cat.

BACKGROUND Morphine's metabolite, morphine-6-glucuronide (M6G), activates the mu-opioid receptor. Previous data suggest that M6G activates a unique M6G receptor that is selectively antagonized by 3-methoxynaltrexome (3mNTX). The authors compared the effects of M6G and morphine on breathing in the anesthetized cat and assessed whether 3mNTX reversal was selective for M6G. METHODS Step changes ...
